Anne’s Great South Run triumph

For six years, Anne O’Neill has completed the Great South Run in memory of her sister Brigid who sadly suffered a fatal epileptic seizure in November 2001.

Anne got in touch to tell us of her experience.

“This is the sixth year I have run for SUDEP Action and I will continue to do as long as I can despite the pain. I suffer from a very painful stomach condition but I was determined to finish the race in Brigid’s memory and for a very special and personal charity to me. I was very proud when I finished the race and put my lovely red and gold medal around my neck.”

Anne’s courageous completion of the Great South 5k Run was a testament to the memory of her sister who she had run with in a 5k race in London in 2001.

She told her local paper: “Brigid was not a runner but she enjoyed the walk and she had a beaming smile on her face wearing her medal.”

2023 was a busy year for Anne, attending the Birmingham Festival 23 in celebration of the Commonwealth Games Anniversary in July.

“I was very proud to be selected to be one of the 11,000 Collectives out of 41,000 people who applied. I had my photograph taken with Colin Jackson, the ex-British athlete.”

Anne told her local paper that she left the festival feeling pleased that she “had an enjoyable time attending such a special festival and it brought back happy memories of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. It was a privilege and an honour to be part of such a spectacular sporting event.”

Anne’s personal achievement of raising £318.75 for SUDEP Action marks her continued support of the charity to ‘keep up the good important work you do for epileptic sufferers and their families’.
